The Bears 24-16 home win two weeks ago over the Lions saw very little offense, with the Lions outgaining the Bears 261-260. The points were created by kickoff returns for a TD by each team and a Lions TD in the last minute to make the score more respectable than it actually was. To be kind, both of these teams lack playmaking ability of the sort that leads to “instant offense” of the kind that puts games over totals. Chris Chandler is far less likely to make the kind of killer mistakes that Kordell Stewart made with regularity, the kind that left opponents in easy scoring position. With these teams familiar with each other offensively having just played two weeks ago, we’ll look for a low scoring contest and for the under to be a favorable proposition.

Reason: What started out as a promising season for these two has turned sour quickly, as both squads enter this week with identical 2-6 marks. Chad Pennington was injured early on for the Jets, so they somewhat anticipated starting out slowly. The way the Raiders have struggled has come as a complete surprise. Despite missing WR Porter early in the season, the Raiders continue to struggle offensively. This was a team who averaged 28.1 points per game a year ago!! The Jet offense has struggled at times, but defensively they have been solid. Last week's overtime loss to the Giants was the first time New York has permitted over 24 points all season. Now with Pennington back healthy, look for the Jet offense to start to make some strides. Santana Moss finally showed the talent he was drafted for last week, catching 3 touchdown strikes. Oakland on the other hand is in complete turmoil. The coach and the players are at each others throats, and you know Al Davis isn't very happy. It's doubtful at this point that the coaching staff will last the season. The quarterback position is in complete disarray, as starters are falling by the week. For a team who expected to make a return trip to the Super Bowl, you have to believe that they just can't wait for this season to end. The Jets are playing improved ball, they gain a rather easy victory
